About me and my practice

59 years of age, planning on taking retirement next year, but as enjoy working in this field of medicine, I intend to carry on in a reduced capacity post February 2022.

Working in North West Wales with BCUHB (NHS) Trust covering Ynys Mon and Gwynedd

Experience

Qualified St Andrews/Manchester 1986, GP Training in North Staffordshire, 1st GP Partnership 1990-1998 Wallasey, Wirral, and started working in Forensic Medicine in 1995, working for the Wirral Division of Merseyside Police.

Started as Salaried GP in 1999, working in Leasowe, Wirral until End of January 2013. 1st proper role as SMS Dr was 2002 with Arch Initiatives, looking after the Service Users in the Criminal Justice Intervention Programme. Obtained part 2 RCGP Certificate in Drug Misuse in 2004, and started working for the Wirral Drugs Service, Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Trust (CWP), until 2015, when it was re-commissioned to Crime Reduction Initiatives (aka CGL). I left four months later.

I obtained Membership of the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine in 2009, after having successfully completing the Post Graduate Diploma in Forensic and Legal Medicine in 2009, with Distinction.

In 2013, having resigned as a GP, I worked as SMS Dr until 2015, as well as Senior Forensic Physician with Merseyside, Greater Manchester (Lead) and Lancashire Police up until 2016, when the forensic medical services contract became untenable. In 2016, I started working as a forensic physician with Cheshire Police, with MITIE but could only stay for 1 year. I applied for and got a job working in SMS again, in East Cheshire, in Crewe and Macclesfield, which was then commissioned by the CWP. Sadly this was re-commissioned to CGL in 2018, so I left.

I was very fortunate in that I applied for and got the job as a specialty SMS Dr in North West Wales and started here in February 2019. My role here is very much appreciated and we have a superb team with my colleague, Dr Jim OToole and the staff consist of RNMH and Social Workers, as well as graduates working as keyworkers. Our clinical director, Dr Faye Graver, who is an addiction Psychiatrist, is very supportive and encouraging. I am very happy here.
